Located in northeastern Shanxi Province, Mount Wutai, with its five flat peaks, is a sacred Buddhist mountain. As the sacred site of the Bodhisattva Manjusri, the Bodhisattva of wisdom, the mountain attracts thousands of students and parents praying for good luck and a bright future. The cultural landscape features over 53 sacred monasteries, and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009. Its temples were built from the 1st to the 20th century AD.
