Editor's note:

Run Run Shaw, the illustrious Hong Kong entertainment tycoon, peacefully died at the age of 107 on Jan. 7.

Engrossed in the Hong Kong entertainment industry for more than half a century, Shaw built an empire of film and TV and nurtured numerous arts talents. Countless schools and hospitals are named after him in almost every corner of China.

The story of Shaw's life appears even more remarkable than that of any of the films his empire has produced over the long years.

Shaw is born the sixth son of Shaw Yuh Hsuen (1867–1920), a Shanghai textile merchant. All six Shaw brothers turned to entertainment industry after the old Shaw had passed away. [163.com]
