Editor's note: Traditionally there are four inshore fisheries in China, the Bohai Sea Fishery (in northern China), the Zhoushan Fishery (in eastern China), the Southern China Coastal Fishery (in south China) and the Beibu Gulf Fishery (in south China). In the recent years, the four fisheries have been producing far less fish than in the past as environmental pollution damages fishing resources and land reclamation takes up the space which was used to raise fish.

According to a report issued in 2011, more than 55 percent of China's 18,000km coast line has been used for human activity while the figure was less than 10 percent two decades ago. The following photos show the predicament of China's inshore fisheries.
