Editor's note: The coldest days after the Winter Solstice in Mohe County, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, when the temperature falls below minus 40 degrees centigrade, are the best time for sledding. Recently, a new type of motor sled has been used as a patrol vehicle by frontier guards of the Shenyang Military Command garrisoned there. Soldiers are also fully kitted-out with winter clothing to protect against the biting cold.
