Editor's note: Miyun Reservoir, 13 kilometers from north Miyun County in Beijing, was built in September 1960. It is known as the "pearl of Yanshan mountains." Since water from the south of China started being diverted to Beijing and stored in the Miyun Reservoir at the end of 2014, Miyun Reservoir become the most important water resource to Beijing. Most of the people who live near Miyun Reservoir left the area for the city to find new lives, but others chose to face their new missions as Miyun "reservoir guardians."
