China's first new-type marine science research vessel, the "Kexue" (Science), docks at the coastal city of Qingdao in Shandong Province on April 26. The 4,711-ton vessel was independently made by China and passed official certification on April 24. It is 99.8 meters long and 17.8 meters wide, and is equipped with unmanned and tethered submersibles, deep-towed exploration instruments and deep-sea grabs with live camera feeds.
