Editor’s note: This year marks the fifth year since Wei Tao became a neon light installer. In 2008, aged 21, he moved from his hometown to Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province. Two years later, he became an installer of a neon light company. At the beginning, he could only work at the first or second floor of a building due to fear of heights. After several years of experience, he is brave enough now to install neon lights on the top of the skyscrapers.
In August, the outdoor temperature in Ningbo often climbs over 33°C. Wei and his workmates have to suffer sweltering weather as well as a dangerous situation. In Wei’s mind, safety is the first priority, not only for himself, but also for the pedestrians below. Wei’s parents asked him to change to another job out of concerns for his safety, but he refused.
"Every time I see the colorful neon lights outside the building, I feel proud of my work, "he said, "I can stand at the top of the city to explore its unique beauty which can’t be seen by others."
