Editor's note: Over the past few years, Chinese society has expressed growing concern over the phenomenon of "leftover women" – literally "sheng nü" – who remain unmarried in their late 20s or 30s despite having good education and desired jobs. In the traditional Chinese view, marriage is still a "must." This has led to a nationwide craze for arranged meetings in public places in many Chinese cities, where parents advertise their daughters' physical and economic attributes on billboards in hopes of sizing up a prospective son-in-law. The following pictures illustrate the spectacular scenes of a matchmaking event recently held in Hangzhou, the capital city of Zhejiang Province.
