The photo, taken on Dec. 3, shows technicians debugging the electric light-sport aircraft "RX1E" at a research base of Shenyang Aerospace University. Started by Yang Fengtian, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and developed by Shenyang Aerospace University, the "RX1E" electric light-sport aircraft marks China's first manned electric light aircraft. The plane, powered by lithium batteries, is capable of flying a maximum altitude of 3,000 meters. A charging time of 90 minutes enables it to fly for 45 to 60 minutes. The plane can be used for pilot training, sightseeing tours as well as experimental flying. The model was given a production permit in Shenyang on Thursday. [Photo: Xinhua/Zhang Wenkui]
