Nine-year-old giant panda "Ai Hin" gave birth to a male cub at 6:06 am on Friday during a thunderstorm at Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in southwest China's Sichuan province.

The 145 gram giant panda cub is also the first one born in 2016 in the world. Both Ai Hin and the cub are in stable conditions.

The base now has 152 giant pandas as of the end of 2015, the biggest artificial breeding population in the world.
