Drivers rush to steer their trucks into a dyke in an attempt to cover the dyke slot split at 10:57 am on July 10 as it floods in rural Hunan Province. The drivers abandoned their vehicles, laden with tons of granite, before they were thrown onto the verge of the dam break. By 18:00, 21,000 out of roughly 27,000 local residents were evacuated from the flooded village. Severe downpours have affected villages and towns in the southern part of China for the past several days. (Xinhua)
