Baoxing County of Ya'an City in southwest China's Sichuan Province is known as the place where the giant panda was first discovered and reported by the French missionary Armand David in 1869.

Jiajin Mountain, located in Baoxing County, is the core area of the World Heritage site "Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries" named by the UNESCO in 2006.

More than a dozen giant pandas were chosen from Baoxing's Fengtongzhai Nature Reserve and sent overseas to countries including the United States, Spain and France.
