Editor's note: Even if it's not what most people would consider beautiful, the Mongolian capital of Ulan Bator still has much to offer travelers willing to spend time exploring. With modern high rises, ancient Buddhist temples, and traditional Mongolian yurts, a short walk through the city reveals not only its variegated past but its many socio-economic layers as well.
