Farmers embrace rubber price rebound

Editor's note: Rubber trees are the major tropical plant in south China's Hainan Province, with rubber plantations covering 8.13 million mu (about 542,053 hectares) and latex output totaling 361,100 tons last year. However, the demand for rubber products has gone down in the past five years, with each ton of dry latex for only 10,000 yuan (about US$1,450), undoubtedly a heavy blow to local farmers who depend on rubber for their income. A recent price rebound to 16,000 yuan per ton, however, has brought a gleam of hope for farmers, who are busy with latex tapping to amass a fortune.
