A bride washes her hands in the basin held by a kid in Tongchuan, Shaanxi Province in 1983, and she needs to give red packets or candy to the kid. According to the photographer, usually the bride price included a watch, a sewing machine, a bike and a recorder in the early 1980s. A richer family may give 100 yuan (US$14.5) to 200 yuan (US$29).
