Editor's notes: The 2nd Yajishan Peach Fair opened in Liujiadian Township of Pinggu District, Beijing on July 30, 2017.

A peach-growing contest was held during the fair in which 18 growers won prizes for their chemical-free peaches with attractive appearance and great sweetness.

Liujiadian Township has a planted area of 1,200 hectares, with annual output of 35,000 tons. From late June to early October each year, over 100 species of peaches are sold around China.

To mark the 90th anniversary of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), the fair presented peaches and calligraphy works created by local calligraphers to retired Chinese military servicemen and the relatives of active servicemen living in Liujiadian Township.

To develop local peach brands, the township has built "integrity unions," encouraging peach sellers to work together to uphold the integrity of the area.

In addition, the township has taken advantage of the Internet Plus initiative and established e-commerce platforms, making it easier for consumers to buy high-quality peaches. E-commerce has doubled and even trebled the price of peaches, thus boosting the income of local residents.
