The Great Wall of China is depicted in a mural by Syrian artist Fida Mansour on the wall of the Chinese Embassy in Damascus. The Great Wall was extended by the Chinese to ensure the protection of the Silk Road trade route and the safety of goods carried from China to the ancient city of Palmyra, in present-day Syria.
