Editor's note: The building of the world's largest radio telescope – the 500m Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST), nicknamed Tianyan, or the "Eye of Heaven" –has not only triggered a global attention, but also led to the development of local tourism.

Photo taken on Nov. 24, 2017 shows a bird's-eye view of Pingtang Astronomy Town, in southwest China's Guizhou Province, location of the FAST, a state-of-the-art radio dish. It’s the world largest custom-built radio dish to listen out for extraterrestrial messages. [Photo by Sun Tao/China.org.cn]
