The Information Office of the State Council held its 2011 New Year Reception in Beijing International Hotel on December 16, 2010. About 380 people attended, including foreign diplomats, representatives of international organizations, correspondents from overseas, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan; plus spokespersons from the central and state organs, as well as heads of national media organizations and news websites.
Speaking at the reception, Wang Chen, Minister of the Information Office of the State Council, said China had successfully held a series of important international events in 2010, including the Shanghai World Expo and the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, which has significantly boosted China’s communication and cooperation with other nations. With the rise of its soft power, international status and influence, China was presenting itself as a prosperous, democratic, open, peaceful and harmonious country to the world.
Wang said the year 2011 marks the debut of China’s implementation of its 12th Five-year Program. In the context of various uncertainties about the international economic situation, he said, China will prioritize the themes of scientific development and changing its economic development pattern; promote reform, and maintain sound economic growth momentum, social harmony and stability.
“In the new year, the Information Office will continue to strengthen its communication with media organizations and journalists from all countries, more actively and openly release information on China and spread China’s voice so the international community and people from other countries can obtain extensive and accurate information about China and its ongoing development,” Wang said. |
