Rampant Madrid ease Basel aside

 Real Madrid got off to an impressive start to their Champions League defence with a 5-1 win over FC Basel at the Bernabeu Stadium.

Real Madrid started its defense of Champions League crown with a comfortable 5-1 win over Basel while Atletico Madrid slipped to a surprise 3-2 defeat to Olympiakos on Tuesday in Champions League.

Real Madrid's great victory lift the confidence of its fans and coach Carlo Ancelotti who lost 2 out of the first 3 rounds of club's domestic campaign.

The five goals of Real Madrid came from Bale, Ronaldo, James Rodriguez, Karim Benzema and a Basel own-goal.

The start of the match was relatively even but things started to go wrong for Basel when Suchy was unlucky to deflect a cross from Nacho Gonzalez, in the side for Alvaro Arbeloa, past his own keeper.

Real Madrid got three goals in 7 minutes after the 30th minutes which ensured the easy victory for Ancelotti's team.

In the game between Olympiakos and Atletico, the guest Atletico fell behind in the 13th minute when defender Arthur Masuaku aimed a left-footed drive past goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who was making his debut for the Spanish club.

Imbrahim Afellay stroke the second goal of Olympiakos in the 31st minute, and Mario Mandzukic of Atletico pulled a goal back in the 38th.

In the 73rd, Mitroglou of Olympiakos scored before Antoine Griezmann finally found the net in the 86th for Atletico.

In another game of Group A, Juventus beat Malmo with 2-0 by Carlos Tevez's 2 goals.

In Group B, Liverpool returned to Champions League with a 2-1 victory over Ludogotets Razgrad.

In Group C, Zenit stunned Benfica 2-0 and Monaco beat Leverkusen 1-0.

Group D matches saw Dortmund beat Arsenal 2-0 while Galatasaray and Anderlecht settled for a 1-1 draw.
