Cristiano Ronaldo has complained that the timing of the first El Clasico of the season tomorrow gives La Liga leader Barcelona an unfair advantage.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for Real Madrid in their 3-1 win away to Liverpool in Anfield on Wednesday night and in doing so threw down the gauntlet to FC Barcelona ahead of Saturday's clash between Madrid and Barca in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

The result of that game could go a long way towards deciding the destination of the Spanish league title, although there is still a long way to go in the season, but one thing Ronaldo is unhappy about is that his side will have a day less to prepare for the game than their rivals, who played at home to Ajax on Tuesday.

"I don't understand the kick off time of the 'Classico' on Saturday after we played today," said Ronaldo.

"They do not look after the details, it is the most important game there is and if you ask me (why it is programmed for Saturday), I don't understand, because the date was in the calendar a long time earlier."

"You should look at the Classico in another way, the game should be played on Sunday, as any professional knows it is not the same to have two days to recover as three for a big game like this."

Ronaldo said the win in Anfield was important for his side, commenting that it would "give them more morale", and that they "were growing", but he warned that "Barca are playing very well".

"Maybe Real Madrid are in their best form at the moment, but it would be better to play on Sunday. For a top level footballer, it is not the same to have two days to recover as three, although that is not going to be an excuse, we have to play well and win," he said.
