Shanghai SIPG have completed the signing of former Chelsea and Real Madrid defender Ricardo Carvalho.

Chinese Super League giants Shanghai SIPG have added experienced defender Ricardo Carvalho to their already talent-laden squad.

The 38-year-old's arrival was officially announced on Wednesday by the club who last season finished third in China's top-flight, before qualifying for this year's AFC Champions League courtesy of a 3-0 Play-off victory over Sukhothai FC.

'We welcome the arrival of Carvalho and we are convinced that he has both the ability and the experience to strengthen our defence next season,' said Shanghai in a statement.

Carvalho had been a free agent since leaving Ligue 1 side Monaco at the end of the 2015/16 season.

The vastly experienced central-back recently tasted success with Portugal at UEFA EURO 2016, having previously won three Primeira Liga titles and a UEFA Champions League title whilst at Porto, three English Premier League crowns with Chelsea and a La Liga title with Real Madrid.

The Amarante-born star joins fellow recent arrivals Oscar and Uzbekistan international Odil Ahmedov at Shanghai who will begin their latest AFC Champions League campaign with a Group F clash away at Korea Republic's FC Seoul on Tuesday.
