Zhao snatches draughts gold at China's National Games

World Champion Zhao Hanqing claimed her first gold for draughts at the 13th China' s National Games on Saturday.

In women's 10x10 event, Zhao kept unbeaten record in all nine rounds, fulfilling her promise before the tournament. Zhou Wei of Sichuan emerged the winner of men's 10x10 competition.

Zhao, 23, said that she aims to win a world-class lever tournament in a few years. Zhao's idol is tennis star Li Na, the first Chinese to win a Grand Slam singles title.

Yin Dongheng, who represents Jilin province, won the men's 8x8 event. While Liu Pei grabbed the gold medal for Shanghai in the women's 8x8 competition.

In the mixed group competition, Shandong won the 10x10 event, while the united team of Jilin and Shanghai reached the highest podium of the 8x8 event.

Draughts is one of the most ancient games dating back to 4000 years ago.
