Manchester City is close to signing Real Madrid fullback Danilo, according to widespread media reports yesterday.
Pep Guardiola made fullbacks his top transfer priority in the close season having released Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna, and Brazilian international Danilo is on the verge of joining Kyle Walker as City's latest recruit in that position.
The deal for the 26-year-old is expected to cost the English Premier League side around 26 million pounds (US$33.7 million), and with Walker signed in a transfer from Tottenham Hotspur which could rise to 54 million pounds, that would take City's spending on fullbacks alone past the 80-million pound mark.
Danilo, who joined European champion Real in 2015 from Porto, started just 17 Spanish league games last season with Dani Carvajal often preferred in the rightback role.
The Spanish international started ahead of Danilo in the UEFA Champions League final in Cardiff as Real beat Juventus 4-1 to lift its 12th European Cup.
Chelsea is also believed to be keen on securing the Brazilian's signature, but City — which is also chasing Monaco fullback Benjamin Mendy — remains the favorite to complete a deal.
Meanwhile, Juventus has signed Italy fullback Mattia De Sciglio from Serie A rival AC Milan for 12 million euros (US$13.8 million), the Italian champion said yesterday.
The 24-year-old, capped 31 times, signed a five-year contract after undergoing a medical on Wednesday.
"Juventus are adding a player (De Sciglio) with versatility, skill and an international pedigree," said the Turin-based club on its website (www.juventus.com).
This is De Sciglio's first move in his career since his debut with the Milan club in 2011, where he made 110 league appearances. Juventus' defense has been cut in this transfer window with the departure of rightback Dani Alves to PSG and centerback Leonardo Bonucci to Milan.
