The Guangdong men's team took home a fourth straight title in the team foil at the Chinese National Games on Saturday.
Led by Olympic gold medallist Lei Sheng, Gongdong overwhelmed Jiangsu 45-31 in the final, while Hong Kong pocketed the bronze medal with a 45-37 victory over Fujian.
Ma Jianfei built up a 20-11 lead for Guangdong when he faced Li Haifeng. After Lei extended the lead to 30-19 in the sixth round, Guangdong never looked back and took its first fencing gold in Tianjin.
"It's unexpected that we won the final with a large gap. I think this is my last time to compete at the National Games. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics? I don't think so, but fencing is always part of my life," said the 32-year-old Leng, who won the individual foil title at London 2012 to give China its first ever Olympic gold medal in the event.
Liaoning suffered a last-minute hit against Shandong 29-30 in the women's epee team final. Sun Yiwen built up a 23-16 lead for Shandong in the sixth round, but Liaoning's Sun Yujie tied the match at 29-29 in the end of the last round before Sun Yiwen hit the winning point for Shangdong in overtime.
Meanwhile, Jiangsu defeated Yunnan 40-33 in the bronze medal battle.
