A total of 1,032,470 people have applied to become volunteers for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics as of Feb. 20, including 2,132 disabled applicants, according to the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee.
The Beijing Paralympic Winter Games will take place from March 4 to 13 in 2022. There will be six sports and 78 disciplines rendering 78 gold medals in total at the Beijing Paralympic Games. These events will take place at five competition venues and 25 non-competition venues, covering three competition zones, including Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou.
The barrier-free facilities will be put in place to better serve the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, and well preparations will be made to ensure that needs for services in different aspects are met, according to Yang Jinkui, general director of the Beijing 2022's Paralympic Games Department.
The three Beijing Paralympic villages were built in the three competition zones respectively to allow the athletes to easily access the Game's venues. And all facilities in the villages were constructed under the guidance of barrier-free design standards. The guide to barrier-free services also features barrier-free access to information, such as easy access to sports results and schedules. In addition, barrier-free transportation services will be provided to the athletes. And the quality of the facilities utilized in the Paralympic Winter Games will be ensured as same as that of the Beijing Olympic Winter Games.
The Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee also makes sure that barrier-free services will be provided to meet athletes' needs in the areas of accommodation, dining, security and medical health. The organizing committee currently is working on the selection work of 29 food service providers and plans to book 4,611 rooms. To create a barrier-free environment, facilities will be tailored to meet the basic requirement of disabled person in restaurants. These increased barrier-free facilities will also enable athletes to have easy access to medical health services, such as convenient wheelchair maintenance.
