Spanish La Liga side Mallorca on Tuesday confirmed they have sacked Luis Garcia Plaza as their first team coach.

Luis Garcia lost his job after a run of six consecutive defeats, ending with a 1-0 loss away to Espanyol on Sunday, saw Mallorca slide into the bottom three and now in very clear danger of relegation, just a year after the coach steered them to promotion back to the top-flight.

The club confirmed the decision in a communique stating that "Luis Garcia Plaza has been relieved of his duties as first-team manager."

"Plaza led us to promotion in his first year in charge of the club and achieved a record 82 points in doing so."

"We wish Luis the best of luck for the future and thank him for all his hard work and dedication over the previous two years."

The experienced Javier Aguirre, who has previously coached Osasuna, Atletico Madrid, Zaragoza, Espanyol and Leganes in Spain, is a favorite of the new Mallorca coach in the near future.
