Scottie Scheffler on Sunday won the 2022 Masters at Augusta National Golf Club, Georgia, the United States.

The 25-year-old golfer, who currently ranks No.1 in the world, shot a 1-under 71 in the final round on Sunday. He was also the only player to break par in all four rounds, carding a 10-under 278, three strokes clear of Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy.

Rory McIlroy tied for the lowest final-round score in Masters history on Sunday with an 8-under 64.

The Masters champion is Scheffler's first career major title, and he became the fifth golfer to enter Augusta National ranked No. 1 in the world and claim the green jacket, joining Ian Woosnam (1991), Fred Couples (1992), Tiger Woods (2001-2002) and Dustin Johnson (2020).

"It's a long day. It's a tough day. I just tried to keep my head down and execute shots," he said, adding that the biggest strength of the week was just staying patient and trusting himself.

The legendary golfer Tiger Woods fought through his pain from an injury to play all four rounds at this year's Masters, He ranked No. 47 after finishing at 13-over 301, his highest 72-hole total at this event, and the second-highest 72-hole total of his career. But he still received a standing ovation from the patrons at Augusta National's last hole on Sunday to show respect for his return after 14 months from a catastrophic car accident.

"It was an unbelievable feeling. Just to have the patrons and the support out there. I wasn't exactly playing my best out there," Woods said after the match. "There have been more tough days than easy days. I just have to work through it, and like golf."

Not winning the tournament, he still considered that this week was one of the greatest achievements of his career. "Without a doubt, to go from where I was to get to this point."

The 2022 Masters Tournament is the 86th edition of the Masters Tournament and the first of the men's four major golf championships held in 2022. Its total prize money is 1,5000,000 U.S. dollars, with a 2.7 million U.S. dollars payout for the champion.
