Defending champion Shandong Taishan defeated Chengdu Rongcheng 2-1 in its home stadium, extending its winning streak to eight games in the Chinese Super League (CSL) on Sunday.

It has been 998 days since Shandong last played at its home stadium due to COVID-19. In order to reduce the risk of spreading of the pandemic, the game was still played behind closed doors.

Both teams struggled to create chances during the game. In the 16th minute, Shandong took the lead as Brazilian striker Cryzan Barcelos found the net through a quick counterattack.

Chengdu evened the game in the 60th minute as Brazilian striker Felipe headed home after a corner at the right side.

In the 76th minute, Cryzan was pulled down in the area, winning his team a penalty. Brazilian center Moises hit the target to secure the victory for Shandong and also end Chengdu's 5-game winning streak.

Elsewhere, Wuhan Yangtze River acquired a dream start against Henan Songshan Longmen, as Zhang Huajun and Hu Rentian scored two goals in the first eight minutes to help their team take a 2-0 advantage.

In the 15th minute, Henan's Henrique Dourado knocked over referee Ma Ning and received a red card.

However, the 10-men Henan managed to strike back in the rest time of the game for a 2-2 tie.

In other games, Guangzhou FC crushed Shenzhen 4-1, while Shanghai Shenhua drew with Tianjin Jinmen Tiger 1-1.
