VAR decreed a penalty for Eric Garcia's foul on Rodrygo, and the Brazilian scored from the spot early in injury-time to confirm Real Madrid's win.

Real Betis moved up to fourth after a 3-1 win at home to Almeria in an Andalusian derby.

William Carvalho scored twice for the home side, opening the scoring in the 23rd minute. Although El Bilal Toure equalized in the 52nd minute, Borja Iglesias put Betis back in front in the 66th minute, before Carvalho's second assured three points for Betis six minutes later.

Real Sociedad won an intense game 2-1 away to Celta Vigo, with Asier Illarramendi opening the scoring for the visitors in the 30th minute with his first goal in four years.

Iago Aspas leveled for Celta nine minutes later, but from a Brais Mendez cross, Igor Zubeldia sealed Real Sociedad's seventh win in succession eight minutes after the break.
