Medvedev edges Sinner in Rotterdam for 16th title

Daniil Medvedev won the 50th edition of the ABN Amro Open tennis tournament in Rotterdam on Sunday by beating Italian Jannik Sinner.

In an exciting and high-level final in the Ahoy stadium, the 27-year-old Russian Medvedev, ranked 11th on the ATP world ranking, beat 21-year-old Sinner, world No. 14, in three sets 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.

Sinner, who won the ATP event in Montpellier, France last week and had won seven of his previous eight finals, started well against Medvedev and had a decisive break on 6-5 in the first set.

The fight continued in the following two sets with several long, beautiful rallies. However, the Russian was just a little more thorough and grabbed his 16th title in his 28th ATP final.
