Liu Xiajun, a 17-year-old girl from Ziyang city, southwest China's Sichuan province, claimed a gold medal in 4x100m relay at the 20th Asian U20 Athletics Championships held in South Korea, on June 6.
Liu also ran 100 meters in 11.85 seconds to win the silver medal at the Championships on June 5.
Liu was one of the 30 athletes China sent to 20th Asian U20 Athletics Championships. Her items were women's 100m race and 4x100m relay.
She loves sports and stood out at a very young age in Ziyang's local track and field events. Soon she joined the Sichuan provincial team and won the gold and silver in the 100m and 200m races at Sichuan Youth Athletics Championships in 2020. She claimed a bronze in women's 100m race at the 14th National Student Sports Games held in Qingdao, east China's Shandong province.
Besides Liu, track and field athletes from Ziyang city including He Yuhong, Jing Tao and Yu Xuankai have made stunning performances at China and international sports games in recent years.
