Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola watched his side lift this season's Premier League title on Sunday and then dropped a bombshell by saying next season could be his last as coach at the club.
Guardiola made his declaration after his side beat West Ham 3-1 to assure their fourth consecutive league title and the sixth since he took over in the summer of 2016.
However, speaking to Sky Sports after the final whistle, the 53-year-old, who has a contract until June 2025, implied that his time at the Etihad Stadium is coming to an end.
"The reality is I'm closer to leaving than to staying. It's eight years, will be nine," commented Guardiola, who made it clear that his "feeling" was "I want to stay next season."
"I want to stay next season. During the season, we will talk. But after eight, nine years..." he said, adding that he had thought about stepping down after last season's Champions League win.
"We were in Istanbul and I said, 'It's over. What am I doing here? There is nothing left.' But I have a contract. I am here and I am still enjoying some of the moments, sometimes tired but some of them I love.
"Now, I am feeling it is done. What next? I don't know," continued Guardiola, who said his players would rest for "two or three days" before preparing for next weekend's final against Manchester United where City will try and become the first team ever to win consecutive Premier League and FA Cup doubles.
