Cruz Azul booked a place in the Liga MX Clausura final despite a 2-1 defeat to Monterrey in their semifinal second leg on Sunday.
Having won the first leg 1-0 away, the Mexico City outfit extended their aggregate lead to 2-0 when Angel Sepulveda struck just after the hour at Ciudad de los Deportes.
The goal sparked Monterrey into action and German Berterame put his side on level terms on the night with a 67th minute strike before he netted again six minutes later.
Cruz Azul survived a tense final half hour to reach the final by virtue of having finished higher in the standings after the regular season.
Martin Anselmi's men will meet local rivals America in the final, to be played over two legs on May 23 and 26.
"It promises to be a great final against a very difficult opponent," Anselmi said.
"This team has been through a lot but we've remained strong and united. We are going to rest tomorrow and then start preparing for the final."
America are aiming for their 15th Liga MX title while Cruz Azul are in pursuit of their fifth.
