Portuguese manager Alvaro Pacheco has been appointed head coach of Vasco da Gama for the rest of the 2024 Brazilian football season, the Rio de Janeiro club said on Tuesday.
The 52-year-old replaces Ramon Diaz, who was sacked earlier this month after a poor run of results. Youth team coach Rafael Paiva has since filled the role on an interim basis.
Pacheco will be joined by assistants Pedro Valdemar and Jose Teixeira, fitness trainer Leandro Mendes and high-performance coach Ricardo Ferreira.
"The new professionals have had their first day of work in which they got to know the facilities, the staff and watched the training activities," Vasco said in a statement.
The announcement came less than a week after Pacheco parted ways with Vitoria Guimaraes, whom he guided to fifth in Portugal's top flight this season.
Vasco are currently 13th in Brazil's 20-team Serie A standings with two wins and four losses from six games so far.
