Spain coach Luis de la Fuente on Monday named his preliminary list of 29 players for the forthcoming 2024 European Championships in Germany, with some surprises.

Real Betis striker Ayoze Perez is rewarded with a call-up for an excellent end to the season, as is Barcelona attacking midfielder Fermin Lopez, Girona's Aleix Garcia and Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez.
However, there is no place for Real Madrid right-back Lucas Vazquez or Athletic Bilbao's Oihan Sancet, who drops out of the squad after recent injury setbacks.
The squad has to be cut to 26 by June 7, although only 23 of those can be in the matchday squad when Spain play Croatia, Italy and Albania in the group stage, which kicks off on June 15.
Speaking to Spanish TV network RTVE, De la Fuente said that the 29 players he has named "all have the same chance" of being on the plane to Germany, but he added that "the way things stand today, I am clear on whom the 26 will be."
He said naming 29 players now was to "guarantee against any setback" in training sessions before June 7.
