Flamengo moved to the top of Brazil's Serie A standings on Sunday by recovering from a goal down to register a 6-1 victory over Rio de Janeiro rivals Vasco da Gama.

Pablo Vegetti gave the hosts an early lead at the Maracana stadium before goals from Everton Soares, Pedro and David Luiz handed Flamengo a 3-1 lead at halftime.

Giorgian de Arrascaeta, Bruno Henrique and Gabriel Barbosa were on target after halftime as the seven-time Brazilian top-flight champions secured their fourth win of the campaign.

Tite's men now have 14 points from seven outings and are ahead of second-placed Bahia on goal difference. Vasco are 13th in the 20-team standings with six points so far.

"It makes me proud to play for a team that has the conviction to stick to its plan despite conceding an early goal like we did today," former Brazil international defender Luiz told reporters after the match.

"There is still a long way to go in the season but we have found our groove and we are much more cohesive than we were a month ago. The challenge now will be to continue in this vein."

In other Brazilian Serie A games on Sunday, Bahia drew 1-1 at Atletico Mineiro, Palmeiras prevailed 2-1 at Criciuma, Sao Paulo secured a 2-1 home win over Cruzeiro and Fortaleza won 1-0 at home to Athletico Paranaense.
