Germany and Ukraine played out a goalless stalemate in their penultimate warm up in Nuremberg ahead of the 2024 UEFA European Championship on Monday.
The visitors started brightly and came close within five minutes when Mykola Matviienko pulled a shot wide from close range.
Clear-cut chances were at a premium, but Ilkay Gundogan nearly broke the deadlock with a header that narrowly missed the target.
Jamal Musiala saw his dangerous effort blocked by Matviienko, while Roman Yaremchuk forced Germany's goalkeeper Manuel Neuer into action after dispossessing Jonathan Tah near the penalty box just before the halftime break.
After the restart, Germany took control and posed more danger in front of Ukraine's goal. Kai Havertz nodded a header over the crossbar, and substitute Maximilian Beier rattled the woodwork at the hour mark.
The visitors remained a threat on fast breaks, but Neuer was rarely tested in the second half as substitutions disrupted the flow of the game.
Germany dominated the closing stages but lacked accuracy in front of goal. Chris Fuhrich couldn't beat Ukraine goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin, and Deniz Undav's solo effort was defused just in time.
With the goalless draw, Julian Nagelsmann's men now focus on their final test match against Greece at Borussia Park on Friday.
"It is good to be back after a long time with the national team. We failed to reward ourselves with a victory today. I hope we will win in the group stage," said Germany goalkeeper Neuer.
"Of course, we would have preferred to win, but we staged an overall great performance. The team wanted to win, and that's important. We played well in the opening stages of both halves. Ilkay should have opened the scoring with his header early on. We had several chances but conceded counterattacks as well," said Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann.
