Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez scored a hat-trick as Uruguay fine-tuned their Copa America preparations on Wednesday with a 4-0 friendly win over Mexico in Denver on Wednesday.

Nunez opened the scoring at the Empower stadium by firing home from close range before Mexico equalized through Facundo Pellistri, who finished smartly after Brian Rodriguez's cross.

The Celeste extended their lead just before halftime courtesy of another Nunez effort on the counterattack.

The 24-year-old was irrepressible and he struck his third goal just after the restart as he combined with Facundo Pellistri and tapped in from inside the six-yard box.

Uruguay will begin their Copa America campaign against Panama in Miami on June 23 while Mexico will kick off their tournament against Jamaica in Houston a day earlier.
