Bolivia defender Jairo Quinteros will miss the upcoming Copa America in the United States due to a ruptured Achilles tendon, the South American country's football federation said on Thursday.
The 23-year-old, who plays his club football for local top-flight outfit Bolivar, sustained the injury while training with La Verde's national squad on Thursday morning.
"After carrying out the corresponding studies and examinations, he has been diagnosed with a tear affecting more than 90% of the Achilles tendon," the federation said in a statement.
"He will be omitted from the squad so that he can concentrate on making a full recovery," it added.
The entity did not immediately say if it would name a replacement for Quinteros, who has 22 Bolivia caps.
Bolivia will begin their Copa America campaign against the tournament hosts on June 23 before also facing Uruguay and Panama in the group stage.
