FIFA President Gianni Infantino arrived in Malawi on Tuesday to condole the death of Malawian Vice President Saulos Chilima, who was killed in a plane crash on Monday.
Infantino was scheduled to meet Chilima for a courtesy call on Wednesday before embarking on an inspection mission of some FIFA projects being implemented in the southern African country.
A statement released by the Football Association of Malawi on Tuesday through its communications department announced the cancellation of the FIFA president's intended activities in Malawi to allow him to pay homage to the fallen vice president of Malawi and others.
Meanwhile, the Malawian government has announced 21 days of mourning following the death of Chilima.
Chilima and his entourage, including former First Lady Patricia Shanil Dzimbiri, were on their way to the funeral of former Attorney General and Justice Minister Ralph Kasambara, when the crash happened due to bad weather, according to Malawian authorities.
