According to a statement released by Beijing Guoan on Thursday, Zhang was initially diagnosed with minor injuries to his left shoulder as a result of a joint dislocation in China's 1-1 draw with Thailand on June 6.
Five days later, the 27-year-old striker played 30 minutes in China's 1-0 defeat to South Korea after receiving a painkiller injection, the statement read.
Upon returning to Beijing Guoan from national team duty, Zhang underwent another examination, which revealed that his injuries were more serious than originally diagnosed. He has sustained three shoulder injuries, including a bone fracture.
Zhang is expected to resume action in four to six weeks, the Beijing club said.
