Panama captain Anibal Godoy has been ruled out of the Copa America in the United States due to a quadriceps tear, the Central American nation's football federation said on Tuesday.
The Nashville SC midfielder sustained the injury during a 1-0 friendly defeat to Paraguay in Panama City on Sunday.
A subsequent MRI scan confirmed a grade two tear of his left rectus femoris muscle, the federation said.
It added that a replacement for Godoy had been chosen but would only be confirmed if and when the player's club released him.
Panama will begin their Copa America campaign against Uruguay on June 23 before also facing the United States and Bolivia in the group stage.
