The Pakistan women's cricket team started a training camp on Wednesday in the country's southern port city of Karachi for next month's Women's Twenty20 Asia Cup 2024, said a statement from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The PCB said that a four-day training camp for the team kicked off at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre in Karachi to prepare the side for the upcoming tournament to be held in Sri Lanka from July 19 to 28.

"A total of 28 cricketers have been invited to the camp by the women's national selection committee to assess and evaluate players' performances before announcing the squad for the event," added the PCB.

The players will undergo practice sessions and will also play T20 practice games under the supervision of senior coaches Abdur Rehman and Hanif Malik.

The PCB has named the team management for the Asia Cup, including Muhammad Wasim as the head coach, and former Test bowlers Abdur Rehman and Junaid Khan as spin bowling and assistant coaches, respectively.

Eight teams participating in the event have been divided into two groups. Pakistan is in Group A alongside India, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates, while Bangladesh, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Malaysia are in Group B.
