Former Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle United forward Craig Bellamy was on Tuesday named as the new coach of the Welsh national team, with the 44-year-old signing a four-year contract until 2028.

He replaces Robert Page, who was sacked in June after a run of poor results.

"It's an incredible honor for me to be given the opportunity to lead my country and it's the proudest moment of my career," said Bellamy, who scored 19 goals in 78 appearances for Wales and captained the country between 2007-2010.

"It was always my ultimate dream to become the Cymru (Wales) head coach and I am ready for the challenge," added Bellamy, who had been first team coach at Burnley and acting head coach after Vincent Kompany left to join Bayern Munich.

"I give my full commitment to develop this team and I am passionate to bring continued success into Welsh football. I can't wait to get started," he said.

Bellamy's first game in charge will be a UEFA Nations League tie against Türkiye on September 6th.
