Tokyo 2020 Olympics silver medalist and former world record holder, Brigid Kosgei is out of the Paris 2024 Summer Games women's marathon, the country's Olympic body said on Wednesday.

Olympics Kenya said in a statement issued in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya that Kosgei will be replaced by in form 2022 New York Marathon winner, 30-year-old Sharon Lokedi -- a runner-up at Boston earlier this year.

Olympic titleholder Peres Jepchirchir and Boston and New York Marathon winner, Hellen Obiri, are the other luminaries in the star-studded Kenyan women's marathon squad.

Olympic Kenya reported that the 30-year-old Kosgei, who ran the previous 2:14.04 mixed race women's world record in 2019, is out of Paris after getting injured at their high altitude training camp.

"It's during one of the regular monitoring sessions that Olympic silver medalist Brigid Kosgei expressed an injury concern to the technical team. Upon a review by the medical team led by the Chief Medical Officer Ondiege, Kosgei will not be heading to Paris for her second Olympics," Olympics Kenya said in a statement.

The local Olympics committee further pledged to support Kosgei as she recovers from her injury setback.

The women's marathon in Paris will bring curtains down on the track and field program on Aug. 11.

Kenya is seeking a third straight Olympics women's marathon title after Jemimah Sumgong and Jepchirchir ran to gold at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

Before Rio, Kenya had never won a women's Olympic title.
