Upsetting China's Xu with a commanding 5-0 victory, Tokyo 2020 silver medalist Nesthy Petecio of the Philippines progressed to the women's 57kg semifinals, where she will meet Polish boxer Julia Szeremeta.
China is among the three countries that gained full quota in all six female boxing events and five of their six female boxers have reached top four, securing at least five bronze medals.
Top seed Li Qian downed India's Lovlina Borgohain 4-1 in the women's 75kg quarterfinals, while Chang Yuan is edging closer to the gold medal as she triumphed over the fourth-seeded Pang Cholmi of DPR Korea 3-2.
"She is a great rival, we have faced each other many times and I have learned a lot from facing her. And today, I won because of how sure I was in executing my strategy, whether it's in the strength of my punches or others," said Chang.
"I will give it all for the final, thinking more about the contest and not about the result," Chang added.
