American Tara Davis-Woodhall continued her rapid ascent by winning gold in the women's long jump at the Paris Olympics on Thursday.
The 25-year-old secured the title with 7.10 meters, 0.12 meters ahead of Germany's defending Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo, who took silver.
American Jasmine Moore took bronze, 0.02 meters further back.
"Is this real? Am I dreaming? Pinch me. I'm so stoked," Davis-Woodhall said. "I've gone through hell and back, faced everything you can imagine. When I found out that I was jumping at 8 p.m. on 8th of August, I knew it was perfect."
Davis-Woodhall, who finished sixth at Tokyo 2020, was a silver medalist at the 2023 world championships before taking gold at this year's world indoor championships.
She said she had suffered depression following the last Olympics.
"I couldn't see myself being Olympic champion," she said. "After Tokyo, I was like, I'm never going to do that again. This year has been different. I've doubted so many things. My nutrition, I've been eating red meat, and it's the best thing I've probably done."
