Boca Juniors recovered from a goal down to secure a 3-2 home victory over San Lorenzo in Argentina's Primera Division on Sunday.
Andres Vombergar gave the visitors the lead from the penalty spot before Milton Santos equalized just after halftime.
Marcelo Saracchi put the hosts ahead with a 54th-minute strike and Miguel Merentiel extended the advantage by slotting home on the counterattack.
Saracchi went from hero to villain when he was sent off in the 94th minute for bringing down Ivan Leguizamon in the penalty area. The latter converted the resultant spot-kick but it was nothing more than a consolation as Boca clinched their fourth campaign win.
"The win was key to making sure that we're in touch with the leaders," Boca manager Diego Martinez said.
"We're still a long way from where we want to be but we are focused on getting the results we need to be fighting for trophies," he added.
The result at La Bombonera leaves Boca Juniors eighth in Argentina's 28-team top-flight standings with 17 points from 11 games. San Lorenzo are 26th with just one win so far.
Elsewhere in the Primera Division on Sunday, Atletico Tucuman won 2-0 at home to Estudiantes and Sarmiento were held to a goalless home draw by Tigre.
