Chelsea's former Liverpool, Manchester City and England winger, Raheem Sterling, looks to be heading for the exit door after coach Enzo Maresca said he wants a "different kind of winger."

Sterling hit the headlines on Sunday when he was left out of the squad that lost 2-0 at home to Man City, with his representatives publishing a communique demanding 'clarity' over his future.

He has also been left out of their squad to play in their Conference League qualifying match against Servette, while his No. 7 shirt has been given to new signing Pedro Neto.

"I am not saying Raheem isn't a good player, but I prefer a different type of winger," added Maresca when quizzed over the subject.

"They are not working with me. I don't see them," responded Maresca, when asked about Sterling and defender Ben Chilwell, who has also been left out of the squad.

Sterling and Chilwell are currently training with a group of around 15 other players, who have not been chosen to play, as a result of Chelsea's bloated first-team squad, which currently includes around 40 players.

Sterling, who cost 50 million pounds (65.5 million U.S. dollars) two years ago, is thought to be especially annoyed by the situation after cutting his summer holiday short to begin pre-season training a fortnight early to convince Maresca of his worth.
